I was recently asked through a support forum how to administer an older model NEC Elitemail system via computer. The new IT person was taking over an Electra Elite IPK telephone system with an Elitemail “in-skin” voicemail system and the company he worked for wanted to offer employee directory look up through option 1 of their main auto attendant greeting.

Did you know that NEC’s latest voice mail platforms like the IM16-LX for the 2000 IPS or the EliteMail LX for the IPKII run on a Red Hat version of Linux?

Trouble Summary:
If the CPU is off-line for any amount of time, the Elitemail will not boot back up with the switch.
In the past NEC instructed techs to install the voicemail card while the cabinet was off-line. However, now the only way to get the vmp, vms, fms, cms, or eCTI LX Lite to come online is by inserting the card with the ‘make busy’ switch down, and the KSU powered up and completely
